Intention:
Everyone thinks; it is our nature to do so. But much of our thinking, left to itself, is biased, distorted, partial, uninformed or down-right prejudiced. Yet the quality of our life and that of what we produce, make, or build depends precisely on the quality of our thought. Shoddy thinking is costly, both in money and in quality of life. Excellence in thought, however, must be systematically cultivated. The workshop provides you an introduction how to become a well cultivated critical thinker.
The successful design process with a valuable outcome needs both, creative and critical thinking! A creative problem solver is also a critical thinker. The biggest enemy of thinking is complexity, for that leads to confusion. When thinking is clear and simple, it becomes more enjoyable and more effective. The course will show you the fundamental concepts and principles of critical thinking in a playful approach. Critical thinking is the art of analyzing and evaluating thinking with a view to improving it. Critical thinking is self-directed, self-disciplined, self-monitored and self-corrective thinking. Critical thinking can improve your academic performance, your daily life and your performance in your workplace.
Critical thinkers exhibit a number of traits that distinguish them from uncritical thinkers. Among the most important of these traits are a passionate drive for clarity, precision, accuracy, and other intellectual standards that characterize careful, disciplined thinking; a sensitivity to the ways in which critical thinking can be skewed by egocentrism, wishful thinking, and other psychological obstacles to rational belief, honesty and intellectual humility; open-mindedness; intellectual courage; love of truth; and intellectual perseverance.
We must cultivate intellectual humility, integrity, perseverance, and empathy in ourselves. Disciplined and skilled thinking are no longer luxuries but necessities, no longer add-ons for enrichment programs, but core requirements for every student in every subject on every day. For logical, critical thinking, certainty is essential. For creative thinking, possibility is essential. For design thinking, you need both! The 3 most important things in design thinking are: perception, possibility (=creative thinking) and practicality (=critical thinking). The 3 P's.
